Drowning Growth

Like rainy days and dry ones, word streams ebb and flow, trickle, gush or some days do not
Parched river beds take time to fill, take time to reset
You see it in nature documentaries, the water begins to come and the cracked earth begins to sprout with green, emerging growth of plants that will soon be overrun with deep waters
What are they for? Why do they form if only to be drowned?
No doubt there is a cool ecological answer, oxygenating the water maybe?
There is something brave in their growth there
Something mysterious and crazy but strong
Courageous
Choosing to grow with the risk of drowning
If not drowning the risk of no-one seeing or knowing
There are reasons though
Life that will only be possible because of those tiny plants
There is hope there, sustenance, life even in the unseen
And maybe as the water gets deeper these plants get taller
Maybe their growth is in being overcome
